About Red Rooibos

Rooibos (pronounced roy-bos) leaves are oxidized to enhance flavor. This process also creates a reddish color (seen in our product picture).

The naturally sweet red rooibos leaves are steeped in hot water to produce a red tea that is high in antioxidants and low in bitter tannins. Its lack of caffeine makes it a perfect tea for children and those sensitive to caffeine. Rooibos also contains high levels of phenolic compounds such as flavanols, flavones, flavanones, and dihydrochalcones.

This rooibos is Fair Trade Certified. It is hand-harvested in South Africa, and a portion from the sale of this tea goes directly to community development initiatives such as schools, health facilities, and job creation.

Preparing Red Rooibos

Red Rooibos can be prepared in tea bags by steeping in hot water. The same as you make many other teas. It can also be brewed in a french press. After brewing, it is typically mixed with milk or honey. We've also found that it goes great with our yerba mate.
