Isa Kava, also known as "Tudei" Kava, is a Papua New Guinea variety that has been adapting to Hawaiian soil for over a decade. It is very dark in color and has a much more pungent, earthy taste than other varieties of Kava, however, the pungency has mellowed out over the years, making it more balanced in taste and profile than Isa normally harvested from Papua New Guinea. Hawaiian Isa Kava is very potent and can be exceptionally long-lasting. In fact, the word Tudei literally translates to "two-day". This is a great descriptive term for this type of Kava because its effects can last for up to two days instead of just one evening like most types of Kava. When taking Hawaiian Isa Kava, you immediately notice its strong taste and mouth numbing effects. This is a not-so-subtle indicator of its potency!

Our Hawaiian Isa Kava powder is chopped and washed with a high pressure system very shortly after it was harvested. It is thoroughly sun-dried, then milled using a vertical type, stainless steel hammer mill. The process lacks heat, common with other milling methods. This prevents a breakdown of kavalactones. After milling, the product is immediately sealed into storage and kept in a cool, dark place. The resulting product is a fresh, traditional grind powder that is easy to use.

All of our Kava root powders have a kavalactone content between 12.5 and 18%! The average lateral root-to-stump ratio is approximately 70% to 30% (7:3).  From the time the local Kava is harvested to when it's ready to ship is generally about 7 days, weather permitting.

Note: We are proud to say that our Kava products have not been treated with the chemical compound Methyl Bromide (Bromomethane). This is a colorless gas used in a lot of Kava products currently on the market that has been found to be ozone-depleting and is also a potential developmental toxicant.
